Therapy Dog

Qualifications

Sophie is a trainee therapy dog at this stage. She is receiving ongoing training with Danielle (a certified dog trainer) and Lead the Way, as well as on the job training with select clients. We wouldn't normally do things this way, but while Sophie is fine one-on-one, she still gets a bit over whelmed with crowds of people (or dogs), so the training itself would probably be too much for her right now (and we don't intend to ever make her work crowded locations at this point).

You can check out what the full AAT training involves HERE and I think, if you've met Sophie, you'll understand that she's not quite ready for that just yet! But she is very happy to work with Danielle or Mathew, with one of her fully trained siblings there to show her the ropes.

Sophie - Border Collie

Sophie is a tan border collie who was born in 2017. She came to live with us in 2022 after spending her first five years as a breeding dog in a puppy farm.

Who is Sophie really?

Sophie has literally come along leaps and bounds since we first met her in 2022! From a completely shut down and timid little girl, she has grown into a sweet, gentle, polite dog, with a side of serious goofball! (And the occasional dash of sass!)

This means, especially as she's still training as a therapy dog, she can get a bit cheeky in session sometimes! This might include going into 'hype' mode and trying to rile up Rory or Winston into joining her for some romping around the room (Rory steadfastly refuses and gives her THE LOOK, but she can usually crack Winston!). Or getting solo zoomies and showing off all her tricks at once in the hope that we'll stop what we're doing and give her treats!

But for the most part, she really is just the most beautiful therapy dog (in training) you could imagine. She can take a little while to warm up to you, but once she does, you'll get couch cuddles and nose nuzzles and a BFF (Best Furry Friend) for life!
