Frequently Asked Questions

How to make an appointment with 12 Points Psychology

Our custom-built premises have been open in Crown Court, Ferntree Gully since 2016, with our Burwood Highway location opening in 2018 and that office moving to Bayswater in 2022, in order to meet the increasing demand from clients for access to high quality, compassionate psychological services. Happily, we can report that the feedback continues to be extremely positive. Pre-COVID, some clients used to even drop in early for their appointment just to enjoy a cup of coffee and some dog cuddles!

We have a variety of clinicians with different interest areas to make it easier to find the right practitioner for you and we pride ourselves on creating a welcoming and comfortable environment and helping our clients find the best possible clinician for them and their needs.

PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU ARE UNWELL OR HAVE ANY FLU-LIKE SYMPTOMS, PLEASE LET US KNOW SO WE CAN ARRANGE FOR A TELEHEALTH SESSION FOR YOU.

As a guide, we are happy to see children, teens, adults, couples and families via the following pathways:

  1. Private clients (no referral necessary)
  2. Individuals with referrals under the Medicare Better Access Scheme (please see your GP for a mental health care plan*)
  3. TAC referrals
  4. 2-3 Pet Bereavement sessions at reduced rates for people who are recovering from pet loss (no referral necessary).

What is the wait time for an appointment with us?

The wait time for your first appointment can vary depending on the time of year and therapist availability. In some cases, we may schedule your first session within a week or two, while during busier periods, it could be closer to 6 weeks. To get the most accurate information about our current wait times, please reach out to us via our Contact page

Do you offer free / Bulk Billing sessions?

There's no such thing as 'free' psychology sessions under the Better Access Scheme or Medicare. If you are being bulk billed for a medical or allied health appointment (i.e., not having to pay anything out of pocket), it means that the practitioner is choosing to accept the available Medicare rebate as full payment for your session.

We understand the importance of bulk billing for many clients (and you can click HERE for a list of providers that may offer reduced cost or Bulk Billed services). However, as a private practice relying solely on client fees, accepting the Medicare rebate as full payment for sessions is wholly unsustainable. To give you some ideas as to why, currently, the Medicare rebate for psychology services is currently 30% of the recommended fee suggested by the Australian Psychological Society (APS).
